I purchased the Java version from their site, but the launcher insists I need a Game Pass even though I bought it separately. Will I still need to buy Game Pass just to play Minecraft Java?

You're asking about the differences between Minecraft Java and Bedrock editions. Java lets you join more servers like Bukkit, while Bedrock works on consoles and mobile with cross-platform support. Regarding Xbox GamePass, it doesn't include Minecraft by default.

Java is now part of the game pass, but your launcher still asks you to upgrade. You’ll need to purchase the Game Pass to access it, so buying the Game Pass is necessary if you want to use the original launcher.

You don’t necessarily need to install Game Pass or the Game Pass Launcher if you’re using the original launcher. Just make sure your PC meets the requirements and try launching the game directly.

Sure, I’m not entirely sure how this came about. However, it seems like you might have bought Minecraft from Java and are looking for it in the Microsoft library. But as noted earlier, these are two different versions of the game. If you got Minecraft from Microsoft, you wouldn’t be able to play the Java version. If you’re not clear on something and you’re new, it’s best to look it up online where someone can explain it more simply. Generally, feel free to share your Discord, and I’ll help you get the game and play with friends on a popular Minecraft prison server.

This was a while back, I removed and reinstalled the app again, and it functions properly now.
