Minecraft for seniors like you.
I'm a fairly old, married person who enjoyed Minecraft from its early days until a few years back. I played across several servers and was very involved in the community. Recently, my nephew joined and we now play on XB1 together. Honestly, it feels like I've fallen into old habits—spending a lot of time managing servers and communities, but rarely actually playing the game as intended. For those who’ve played recently, here are two thoughts: 1. Are there mature YouTubers or streamers you can trust? I remember seeing some older creators, but most seem to focus on content aimed at younger audiences. 2. On servers, things have changed a lot. Back then we used Bukkit and Spigot, now development seems slower. I’m looking for ways to set up multiple worlds and teleport between them easily, without knowing which custom server software works best. The plugins I relied on are no longer compatible with newer Minecraft versions.
Hey, I'm around 13. I stopped playing a few years back (1-2). There was a big incident with the main server going down because some staff leaked information and banned Australian YouTubers for no reason—even the host himself. There are mature creators, but they mostly focus on younger audiences. For instance, MrCrainer and SSundee are examples. SkyDoesMinecraft seems to have changed its tone recently, and he mentioned he's starting to use more swearing. I’d rather avoid the Minecraft scene since it feels really toxic.
Sure, I won't get too caught up in the community again—just keep it simple. The drama and lack of maturity were getting really funny when I played less. I opted out of bigger servers and set up my own with a small local group instead. When it comes to youtubers and streamers, I enjoy listening to them while I work. I'll check out some of the people you mentioned.
IMO Ethos Lab creates quite some great content most of the time. His vanilla build is really impressive, showing how far you can push the limits with certain options. He’s probably the only YouTuber I can really enjoy watching. For servers, my friends and I usually stick with 1.7 and 1.8, using custom worlds and lots of plugins. It’s a bit frustrating having to search for them online and dealing with limited support—most of the work falls on us. I’m not sure what others are doing with servers now, but we just play whatever feels right when we feel like it. We sometimes try mods, but we never go beyond 1.8.9. That version really hurt the game, and plugin support faded away.
