512x512 texture pack is enough, anything higher slows things down and drops FPS. Plus a good shader pack makes the game run smoothly. It brings Minecraft back to life without the headaches. I've been playing for over four years now. I'm tired of it and lost interest because I got bored and played too much before multiplayer. That's the issue with games that are too early to adopt. Wear them out before you have anyone else to share the experience.
