I first considered sharing this on the Tech News and Reviews Hub, but it turned out to be more of a CNET perspective rather than news coverage. So I opted to post it here instead. Yes, Windows updates can be really bothersome. While the purpose behind them is to secure your system by fixing vulnerabilities and updating security signatures, the real hassle is that they often require a restart or leave you with no choice but to follow a specific sequence: "Sleep, Shutdown and Update, then Restart and Update." If you look at what Apple does with macOS, it handles updates smoothly—automatically downloading and installing them without much fuss. I believe the open-source Unix kernel Apple uses is superior to Microsoft’s closed Windows NT kernel. And don’t worry about Microsoft! It seems they have no plans to resolve the persistent issue with Windows updates. Not surprising, since during my college years my workflow was smoother on a Mac than a PC—not because of speed differences, but because there were fewer intrusive interruptions. Sure, a Mac isn’t great at gaming, but for everyday tasks I’m happy to pay extra for a seamless experience.

Completely unfamiliar with this situation. I've attempted to mimic the problems others report, including those mentioned by the original poster, but couldn't achieve it. I've noticed that windows often fail to restart and apply updates while the system is running. I still think it's not working properly. *Note: Edit OP fix (crop) your photos to make better use of the posting space [format]. You cast it in a PC vs Mac light, but I don't see why. Anyone can run Linux or stay with Windows by upgrading to Windows 7.
Nevertheless, I want to argue a point: I haven't experienced Windows restarting unexpectedly due to an update. Usually it happens when I start it myself. Still, I use Windows 10 Pro and tried to adjust the settings in the options menu to influence how the system updates. Also, refer to this article: http://lifehacker.com/prevent-windows-10...1723647582. Perhaps it really exists. It might even be a recommended setting. But I'm not fully sure that automatic restart is the only choice.
I'm pretty sure you can only schedule an update to restart within a few days. That requires you to realize there is an update...which means that I'd have to check to see if there is an update pending a restart before I do anything important. Which is still a pain in the ass. And I'm pretty sure only Pro users can defer updates.
