presently, the only legitimate method to obtain Windows is purchasing it in its original boxed format. I’m curious if Microsoft would offer Windows 10 as a digital product with a CD key and ISO download. REMEMBER: Avoid mentioning G2A or Reddit software swaps.

It's surprising they're available at this price. It seems counterintuitive since it lacks the included DVD, yet it appears to be priced lower than the standard boxed option.

You're asking whether a clean installation requires purchasing the DVD. Yes, that's correct—upgrading typically involves buying the Windows 8.1 DVD for a fresh setup.

You receive the key, but it’s emphasizing the importance of a fresh installation. Windows 7 supports upgrades, while Windows 8 offers free upgrades. XP and Vista require a complete reinstall. USB drives can be used for the process.

Check if your Windows 8.1 setup qualifies for a free upgrade. Your parents' preferred OS is Windows 7, but the system might still be eligible depending on the version and requirements.
