Helicopters are being planned for future airports, though the exact timing remains unclear. When you seek a highly detailed representation of a specific airport, others will eventually create it, with third-party contributions helping maintain its development.
I've noticed that 32GB offers more performance than 16GB. I've been delaying an upgrade because I can still achieve smooth 1440 FPS on ultra with a 2060, and playing X-Plane in 4K has pushed my expectations high—recently I'm seeing 25-30 FPS. The main drawbacks are occasional crashes, which were especially frustrating last night when the game ended abruptly after disconnecting AP.
Check your memory consumption; if it exceeds 16 GB, increasing to 32 is reasonable, though unlikely. I haven't experienced any crashes so far. The only instances that stopped working were when I accidentally pressed the wrong mouse button and used the close window shortcut twice. To fix this, I reinstalled my mouse utility to disable the game profile.
New York appears to be the most demanding region in terms of resources. I’ve reached over 20GB RAM usage while using high settings at 1440p, suggesting an upgrade to 32GB might help. Right now, RAM prices are relatively affordable. I’ve experienced a few crashes under similar conditions. To resolve this, go to your Profile, review flight logs, and reload the flight plan. Then use the options in the top bar for a final attempt before landing.
According to what the internet says, it seems likely that updates will be released soon to fix several issues. It’s also important to remember that FSX started with poor performance, but they added multiple service packs that significantly improved it over time. These improvements are probably expected here too. To maintain the game, developers need to keep supporting third-party add-ons, which are essential for the sim’s longevity, but if there aren’t enough resources left to run them, people won’t use those extensions anymore.
I really enjoy this game. It's amazing how realistic the world modeling can be in unexpected places you never imagined. I recently visited the Painted Hills in Oregon and was blown away by how close it matched the photo we took there.
Captain Pedant here! The Apollo era on board computers did not use hard disks. They used core memory. Oddly enough, Linus and Dustin from Smarter Every Day did videos on that exact topic awhile back. Go watch the videos so you don't look silly when trying to be a smartass More on topic, the new flight simulator is gorgeous. Outside of the detailed airports built into the game, the airports in the game are best guess sort of scenery and buildings, not precise. I see a lot of room for modders and modelers to build realistic airports for free or for sale. If I knew more about 3D modelling, I would even consider making a stab at my local airport (YKA). As for other buildings, they are mostly wild ass guesses based on top down imagery. My house is in the game, and the footprint is correct, but the ridgeline of my roof is going in the wrong direction. I also flew around the small town where I was born, and was able to follow roads to the tiny house that I lived in when I was born, and that my grandmother lives in now. It is in exactly the right place, so it is pretty awesome
