I usually steer clear of desktop microphones because they tend to capture keystrokes easily unless you use a specialized mic on a shock mount. I don’t have software recommendations, but I’m curious to find something that could prevent accidentally harming a friend during voice chat.
Bring it a bit closer, reduce the volume and enable voice commands or push-to-talk. There aren't any such settings available on Windows, and even if they existed, it probably wouldn't eliminate all the background noise you mentioned.
I've relocated it to the nearest feasible spot without obstructing my monitor view or introducing further issues.
