I just purchased the Crucial ballistix 2x16GB 3600C16, single-rank Micron B die sticks. I've heard a lot of debate about whether these are single, dual, B die, E die, etc. My question is: if I compare two sticks at the same specs—two sticks instead of four—I'd expect the single-rank B die to be better or worse than a dual-rank Micron E die on Ryzen 5000 series? Or more specifically, which part (timings, frequency, etc.) would outperform the other while keeping the single vs dual rank in mind?
Many 16 gigabit sticks are dual-rank capable. The specific RAM details determine its quality. For Ryzen 5000 models, a minimum of 3600MHz CL16-16-16-36 is recommended. To achieve peak performance, consider either dual-rank 2x16GB or quad-rank 4x8GB at 3600MHz CL16. Dual-rank 4x8GB at 3600MHz CL15 is also excellent.
Dual ranking across channels offers better results compared to single ranking alone. I'm curious if testing shows that these benefits can offset increased delay or reduced sampling rate. My idea is that faster rates, less delay, and channel-based rankings together improve overall performance.
I'm focusing on being more precise with the details. The rams you mentioned are 16-18-18-38. As discussed, it seems the B unit would likely close the gap by being single-ranked compared to the E unit, which has dual ranking and better timing/frequency characteristics.
