i had first gen which struggled with 3200mhz and i tried running it at various ram clocks to observe how infinity fabric speed affects performance. there were no microstutters even at 2133mhz (my ram base clock), there was a slight fps boost, and overall the system felt more responsive, though frame times didn’t change much.

You purchased 2133 RAM and anticipated similar performance to 3200 RAM with an overclocking potential that might be excessive for that speed.
🙄
I've encountered numerous instances of stutter with first-generation Ryzen systems, suggesting such performance was often unrealistic.

Hey there,
This seems to connect with the commonly discussed Stuttering/fTPM issue for Ryzen. What BIOS version are you using? It should be 7C02v3F. If not, update the BIOS and reset the CMOS as well. You can follow these steps:
How to clear the CMOS (msi.com)
Your RAM setup looks incorrect. What DIMMS are you using, and what configuration did they come with? If it's a 2 x 8GB package combined with other random DIMMS to fill all four slots, list every DIMMS in the kit or separately. This might also be the cause.

same ram now runs at 3600cl16, can handle 3733 with slightly unstable infinity fabric

only highlighting that at the default JEDEC base clock for DDR4 (2133mhz) the system didn't stutter.

I understand, I can read it, but if you assume first-generation Ryzens don't experience stutter issues like he claims, especially given your focus on the CPU, I'll have to think my statements are just as unlikely.

I used it from 2017 to 2020, but I'm not saying there were no other problems. The SSD was disappearing on SATA5/6 ports, USB would disconnect, and different BIOS versions caused RAM timing issues to affect bandwidth and latency. There was a HEPT bug in 2018 that slowed down the whole PC when CPU usage exceeded two cores. It wasn't a perfect start, but version 1.2.0.7 seems quite stable now.

Also, almost forgot about this:

This issue is related to the Steam client, by the way.

I'm not entirely sure about what you're referring to. I've only noticed a recognized stuttering issue with AMD Agesa 1.2.0.3 up to Agesa 1.2.0.7. If you don't use the correct bios, this problem might remain and be hard to fix. That's a fact. Don't consider it an unbelievable claim as you think. Likewise, I don't believe @kerberos_20 is making outrageous statements. All the points we've discussed are thoroughly researched, and there are many reviews supporting them. If you're pointing out something else, like the 2133mhz claim about RAM timing, that's a different matter. You can challenge it if you wish, but his mention of 2133mhz at the base frequency is probably correct. It doesn't affect your argument.

I also have an 1600x/Asus B350/GTX1060 with 6gb RAM that's working perfectly, no stuttering. Maybe because as a Ryzen user on any platform (Zen1/2/3, etc.), keeping your bios updated is essential. I do.

I think it's odd you both seem to accept claims without checking the details. It's surprising to see someone with 48GB of RAM in a dual channel setup—wouldn't that require a 2x16GB and 2x8GB configuration? It looks like a lot of confusion. This person definitely doesn’t understand proper system assembly.

Additionally, the original post didn’t even address RAM speed or timings. Using DDU to cause more stutter suggests the person isn’t familiar with its proper use. Don’t hold blame on a trusted, dependable driver for your own errors.

It’s also strange that the PSU wasn’t mentioned at all, as if it was just an afterthought.

if it remains dual channel, then it's not important, BGS Alt will handle it
