I bought Metro 2033 during the Steam summer sale for a reasonable price. I started the game, adjusted the settings to 1080p and DX11, then closed it to return later. Now it crashes right when I launch. When I open the app, the screen turns black and I often end up back on the desktop with a message saying the executable stopped working. I've tried many troubleshooting steps online—clearing cache, re-downloading the game, removing config files, and swapping in a different loader DLL—but nothing works. I'm using Windows 7 Professional, a GTX 660, and the latest Nvidia drivers. Are others experiencing the same problem or have they found a solution?

Could the screen you're using function as a television instead of a regular monitor? A friend encountered the same issue and discovered it was his TV set being used as a display. It seems he likely adjusted the settings on the device itself, not just through Windows 7.

I resolved the issue by moving all PhysX elements from Metro: Last Light into the 2033 directory. Great work on the 4A games! lol
