I believed the Steam cloud would fully protect me, but unfortunately I have (1) save file which contains the latest player character. I also have multiple incremental backups that cover most of my progress. How can I restore (all or part of) those saves while keeping the remaining character save intact? I’m hoping it’s as simple as copying and pasting...

I tried to find more details but encountered mixed results about whether it's feasible and what might happen to the important save files. The web search shows some differences, and I'm hoping to get advice from someone who has actually tried it. Thanks ahead of time.

Theoretically possible, I've tried with some other games you need to reach the save folder for BG3 which is under Steam User Data. Unfortunately, the numbers are not listed by game, making it a real challenge to identify them.

The long string of numbers (e.g., 175896279) is your unique Steam account ID.

AppID: The shorter numbers (e.g., 7, 220, 240) correspond to the specific game's identification in the Steam store. You can locate these AppIDs in the game's URL on the Steam store page. This aids in determining the correct folder.

Unfortunately, it looks very probable that I will corrupt the entire save file using this method. Previously, I relied on the standard files folder, but now it brings me back to a much later point in time that I wish to revisit. I’m not sure why, since the save was made just before reformatting my PC, which I’m currently playing on.

I also have another PC with the game and nearly all of my character saves except the last two. One of those is the focus of my efforts right now (lol). I’m uncertain whether linking it to the internet will recover most of my cloud saves as expected, or alter them to what actually occurred.

Thank you for your comments.
