Over the past few days, my boyfriend's computer has been having issues. It crashes often when he tries to play games or even when trying to stream on Discord. The error messages suggest a memory problem or low RAM. He checked his hard drive and cleaned the PC, but it still keeps crashing. Could it be related to the RAM? I’m not very familiar with computers, but I really want to help him figure this out. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
His specifications are available, and it uses a particular Windows version.
Check for any recent BIOS updates and ensure the chipset drivers are up to date.
If he ran out of RAM, the system would likely use the pagefile, possibly slowing performance. It might cap at a single pagefile, which limited my ability to multitask—like streaming games or chatting on Discord. Under heavy load, the PC could shut down to prevent damage. His power supply and CPU temperature also matter; high heat can trigger shutdowns for safety.
Second @venomtail's concern. A sudden shutdown often points to power issues unless there are error alerts. If you're feeling confused by these questions and have access to his PC, we can arrange a voice call to walk you through gathering the necessary details.
