Memory performance may be affected.
I bought some new memory sticks to increase my RAM capacity beyond 16GB. I made sure to match the manufacturer's specifications, which were a 4800MHZ speed and a micron rating. Before installing, my computer was operating at 4800MHZ, but after adding the RAM it dropped to 3600MHZ for an unknown reason. I checked if enabling XMP would help, but it seems my BIOS doesn’t support it. The only overclocking option available is "auto." Here are the memory details from the alienware command center and task manager, along with the values shown in the command prompt. Why is it running slower than expected?
Mixing memory at these faster rates is essentially a guessing exercise. It’s hard to accurately assess your system from these screenshots. If it’s an Intel board, they only officially support 3600 with 4 slot boards, let alone multiple sticks. On the AMD side, I’ve attempted to pair two purchased sets for 4 sticks, but it doesn’t work. There are quad kits available, though they usually cap at 5600 and often stop at 4800. If you sell your current equipment, you might find a better option there. Other suggestions include enabling XMP profiles and slightly increasing DRAM voltage, but these haven’t proven effective yet.
Certainly, here are some reasons:
A) Incorrect RAM pairing
Unless all four modules are included in the same package, they won't match properly and might not function correctly.
B) Motherboard limitations
Many contemporary motherboards struggle to support full-speed memory bus operation when all four slots are occupied.
Yes, switching to just two slots should help resolve your problems, and adding two 16GB cards could also improve performance.
Do you have any options to determine if a higher speed is possible, even though you're new to PC building? Thank you all for your responses!
My computer is an Alienware Aurora R15 AMD. I believe the motherboard is an E93839, as that's what it says on the case.
I believe I've solved the issue! My 0kdr38 motherboard supports speeds up to 5600 MHz. This should resolve all my concerns! Thanks everyone!
