Combine ram in different ways and it might not always be effective. If it does, they'll operate in flex mode—meaning 1 8 gig and 1 16 gig sticks could be on separate channels, with the 8 gig in single channel and the 16 gig in dual channel, all synchronized at 3200 MHz. Why would you require 48 gigabytes?
