Hello User, thank you for taking the time to read my story. I just got a new hard drive for my Alienware 17 (the details will be listed below). I understand the laptop is quite expensive, but please don’t start complaining about that. My previous hard drive failed this Sunday evening and Dell replaced it with a new one. Only yesterday have I installed the new drive and all the software (games, etc.) and drivers (I think so). It functioned properly yesterday, but now my RAM usage is consistently at 97%-100% even when I’m not doing anything. I’ll take a screenshot (the Task Manager is in Dutch, but you’ll get it). There aren’t any tasks using a lot of memory, nor are there multiple processes consuming much RAM. I’ve been checking and should be using no more than 300 MB out of the 16 GB I have. I don’t know how this problem started, but I also don’t know how to fix it. I’m hoping someone smart can help me with this issue.
Best regards, Pim L.
Laptop Specifications: RAM: 16 GB DDR3 CPU: Intel® Core i7-4700MQ @ 2,40 GHz (Intel Turbo Boost up to 3,40 GHz)
Hard Drive: Western Digital 750 GB (not an SSD)
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 780m 4GB + integrated Intel Graphics HD 4600 2GB
Operating System: Windows 8.1
Programs: Nothing unusual, fresh install, all games from Steam and Origin downloaded (~40 titles).
Antivirus: Malwarebytes Premium
Please note: I haven’t visited any suspicious websites, so I suspect no malware is present. I’ve downloaded drivers from Dell and games from Steam and Origin. I’ve restarted my computer several times, but the issue persists. Kindly review the attached screenshot (Task Manager image).
Thank you again!
I'm not sure what went wrong. It seemed to happen without warning. After installing the latest updates from Steam and Origin, my problem disappeared. I only downloaded software from those stores and Firefox via the official Mozilla site. The issue is resolved now, though I don't know how. At that time, the main processes were Mozilla Firefox, Teamspeak 3, and paint. No idea what caused it or solved it. Marking this case as resolved for now. Thanks for your response.
