I was looking at some APUs and their benchmarks on YouTube. I noticed the GPU memory speeds vary, all lower than what I expected for integrated graphics. The 2200G clocks at 1,467 MHz, while the 3500U runs at 1,200 MHz, and so on. There aren’t any benchmarks for the new 4750G APU in Planetside 2. Most of the games tested show its GPU memory at 2,000 MHz, which is higher than everything else. If an APU uses system RAM, why doesn’t the graphics memory reach that speed? For example, a 3200 MHz RAM kit usually hits around 1,600 MHz. It seems the APUs tend to have faster memory speeds as they get newer, but I’m not sure why this happens.

Observing the gap between real clock speed and perceived performance highlights differences in measurement. Afterburner displays raw clock speed, not the usable rate. DDR memory labeled 3200 MHz actually operates at 1600 MHz. Because it supports double data rates, it functions similarly to standard RAM at that frequency. This explains why MT/s is often favored over raw clock numbers.
