You're experiencing issues with your 10 gig NIC on a Mellanox X-2 connected via a MikroTik switch. The Windows 10 settings indicate the card is not communicating with any network, which suggests a potential problem with the cable, the NIC itself, or its physical connection. Check the cable for damage and ensure it's securely plugged into both the NIC and the switch. If the issue persists, verify the NIC's installation on the switch and consider testing with a different cable or port.

I encountered the same problem until I connected it directly to the router. It turned out Netgear routers have compatibility issues with switches.

No, I'm not using DAC or fiber transceivers.

I'm not sure if I'm using a Netgear router. The NIC is linked to a MikroTik switch, which connects to a TP-Link powerline adapter. It's connected to a Telus router modem, and I haven't had any issues before today—it seems like something happened recently, maybe in the past few days.

the cable connects sfp+ to sfp+ except at the head, it almost resembles a regular lan cable. i’m wondering if the nic overheated or something else might be the cause. i’ve been in a spot with limited airflow, and the nic gets quite warm. though part of me thinks it could be software-related rather than hardware. a new nic usually averages around 120 to 200 watts.

In the U.S., those Mellanox ConnectX-2 cards are available for $20 to $30. It seems you're connecting them with a DAC cable. You might want to use another cable. If overheating is an issue, consider adding a fan.

I don't reside in the states; I'm located further north. I relocated it to a spot with better airflow, and I also switched the cable, so it seems the replacement will be necessary.

It seems like you're looking for alternatives after dealing with this issue. The cost is definitely a concern, especially when considering newer options. ConnectX-3 doesn't seem to be the better choice based on what you've shared.

I plan to swap it with an Asus 10gbps SFP+ card. It’s roughly 130GB/s now. I picked it mainly for the larger heatsink. An X-2 is around 75GB/s used or more new, an X-3 is about 150+ whether it’s used or not, and the X-4 looks like a 350GB/s new unit. Unless someone has a really bad experience, I’ll give it a try. It’s the main internet port with Wi-Fi as backup. I don’t usually hit full bandwidth often; I only need it about once a week for file transfers.
