I recently relocated to a location without internet access except through my phone’s hotspot. I’m considering mounting the product from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P4JKQGK/) on a satellite dish. I’m unsure about the best placement or orientation, as numerous articles have left me confused. If anyone has experience with this setup, your advice would be greatly appreciated.
You're wondering why you'd set up an Access Point on a satellite dish. It's meant to extend your internet access without relying on a regular internet connection for the AP. Without that connection, the AP can't reach the wider WAN, so no devices connected to its Wi-Fi will have internet.
Order a Wi-Fi antenna. Avoid attempting DIY projects. Use something similar to the one shown here: https://www.ubnt.com/airmax/rocketdish-antenna/
It can function as an AP/Client/Repeater/AP Router/AP Client Router (WISP). I tested it and it successfully connected to my phone hotspot from over 750 feet away. I’m interested in doing this myself for future projects, so I’d like to learn how to assemble everything. I already have the necessary components ready.
The goal here is to understand how this works and whether you're setting up a connection between devices. Devices such as phones, tablets, and PCs usually have limited-range WiFi capabilities. If you're building something yourself, you can create your own antenna using simple materials like a Pringles can.
Similar setup but powered by an Ethernet connection you can connect directly to a router, which then delivers Wi-Fi to your gadgets.
