Media Server operating system choice For streaming and media management needs
Hey! For a media server setup, Linux options can be great. If you're leaning toward Ubuntu, it's solid and widely supported. Other popular choices include Debian, Fedora, and even lightweight distributions like LXDE or XFCE for simplicity. Since your main tasks involve file sharing and general computing, a stable distro with good package management will suit you well. Just ensure the OS supports NFS/SMB for network access and has enough storage if you plan to use large media files.
I've worked with CentOS, which has proven to be very stable and dependable. Adjusting from Mint and Ubuntu took some time, but it's manageable. If you're familiar with Ubuntu, I'd recommend using their server edition instead.
Looks like you're choosing Ubuntu. Cool! Thanks for the support.

Not decided yet. I’m still working through the costs and thinking about moving my current rig (on Sig) to a larger case with more 3.5" HDD slots. It could be a good move to turn it into a rig/media server at once.
