Mean temperature at 50°C during cooling phase in standby mode
Hi, I upgraded from an overclocked Intel i7 to a non-overclocked R9 3900X. After checking my NZXT CAM, I noticed the CPU temperatures were significantly higher than with the overclocked processor. When idle, the 3900X stays around 50°C, while room temperature was 22°C. Using Cinebench R20 showed it reaching up to 70°C, which seems fine. With the i7, it averaged about 30°C in a heatwave, but reached 80-90°C during testing. The case temps were about 28°C. Are these idle readings typical for a liquid cooled CPU? Thanks!
Use hwinfo64 for accurate Ryzen temperature tracking; other tools may not work properly. If temperatures match, 50°C during idle is acceptable, and idle temperatures are irrelevant—load temperatures matter and are within range.
Hey everyone, just a quick note—most software works well for temperature tracking, it's just a sensor thing. Your point about Ryzen frequencies is spot on, and you're absolutely right to highlight that. For temperatures, I've tried with around ten different monitoring apps and they all give consistent readings, usually within a 1-5°C range. Some folks might misinterpret the data, but the MSI control center confirms it's accurate.
