They serve different purposes. The 8-pin connector is for power delivery, while the 4-pin connector is for audio output. Your previous build only had the 8-pin, but now you have both types available.

The 8-pin connector is essential, while the 4-pin is optional and doesn't matter much unless you're pushing your CPU to LN2 overclocking. The 8-pin already handles 384W, which is more than enough for any processor on the system. Most quality power supplies include an 8-pin, and some even have a 4+4 pin as well. These are the EPS connectors.

They are both utilized by the board, though you don't need to use the 4pin when you already have the 8pin inside.

I own a Corsair RM850x, and I’m not sure if it comes with a 4-pin connector. My processor is a 3900X, which is an AMD model. Appreciate the fast responses!

If you have an extra 4-pin connector available, proceed. It helps lower resistance by distributing the current across more wires, though it's not essential. The 8-pin offers significantly more power than needed. Since the motherboard includes it, if your PSU can handle it—saving you from buying another cable that wouldn't be useful—go ahead and use it.

It functions properly. Each cable has one connector, and there are two cables in total. The design supports 8 pins or 4+4 pin configurations. The 8-pin section can be divided into two 4-pin connectors.
