Maybe I could invest in SC...
I've never played EVE or any space/fight sims before, though I've tried a few MMOs before. I appreciate some of the concepts SC offers, but I struggle to choose a strong ship. I'm considering the Hornet because I enjoy PVP, but I noticed there are various versions. The stealthed version seems perfect for my style, yet I'm unsure if it has any major downsides or isn't suitable for this game. It's priced at $140 for the combo pack. Performance-wise, some early discussions claimed it was poor, so I'd like to confirm whether my setup can handle it. (see sig)
Your choice of ship hinges on your budget and goals. If you're starting out, opting for a more affordable option lets you test the waters before investing in pricier ones. You can always swap packages later to access credits or extra funds for higher-tier ships. Regarding performance, I’m not certain if SLI has been resolved—my friend reported issues with SLI enabled on a single 780ti, but a 1080p setup works smoothly with the 3570k.
I have a typical 300i from Origin Jumpworks. For performance, I can run 1080p at generally over 50 frames per second on my setup. (2600K, 8GB RAM, GTX 670FTW)
It is quite frustrating at first to understand what to buy , i was in the same boat. I eventually settled on a Fighter type ship package (Avenger) because of a few things 1. you cant use these larger ships yet 2. Huge differences in price vs single seater packages vs multi crew ships 3. If your not into a bunch of real life memorabilia then the larger packs may not be for you as most of your Cash seems to be going towards that . 4. Its been said you should be able to earn ships in about a week hardcore playing which may be worth the saved cash. 5. racing Just take your time to familiarize yourself if your unsure . there's no hurry to jump in so make sure you know what you want before you leap in. the official forums have alot of info on all the benefits and packs.
This video works well for beginners. You can also reset any ship or package to recover your in-game credits if you're not satisfied. Concerning performance, the biggest problem I've noticed is consistently using up VRAM, yet I manage around 50 frames at 1440p with my single 780 at high settings. That situation will shift once anti-aliasing and full frame rate techniques are added to the engine.
For the vessels I recommend choosing something you can comfortably spend, you’ll easily upgrade if you spot something better, and once we’re in the main game you’ll also be able to acquire other ships. Regarding performance, it’s still a bit inconsistent right now because we’re in the early stages of development, making it tough to predict the final standards. Personally, it’s always worked for me, but I’m not the most meticulous about frame rates or similar metrics—others have struggled with that too.
Sorry to repeat the old discussion, but @OP I just don’t get it when folks ask “Will my rig be okay?” Are you really being serious? CPU is Intel i7 4790K, RAM is ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO, RAM is HyperX Beast 32 GB, GPU is 2x ASUS GTX 780 TI with DC2 SLI, SSD is Samsung 840 EVO 1 TB, PSU is Corsair AX860i, cooling is Corsair H110, case is Corsair 450D, monitor is ASUS ROG SWIFT 1440 P at 144Hz, audio is SteelSeries H Wireless 7.1.
He inquired about the results and the problems with SLI. I dislike those who use gray text since it makes reading difficult.
It makes sense, with such a setup he should understand the topic. Using a GTX 780Ti is sufficient. Plus, I didn’t change the color—it’s copied directly from his profile.
I’m not planning to go off on a tangent, but you can focus on gaming, software, or rendering without worrying about your hardware or PC specs. I actually build many PCs, but when it comes to my past discussions about my setup, I tend to overthink things and often need to clarify. Some folks really don’t need to understand what’s being talked about here.
