Maybe a new motherboard could help resolve the issue.
Hello! I'm trying to understand what's going on with my PC. It keeps freezing unexpectedly—windows won't respond, programs can't open or close, and it won't shut down properly. After reinstalling Windows, the issue persists. I was told it might be a disk problem since the SSD is the same one used before, but switching to another SSD didn't help. It seems to happen when downloading files or installing software. I'm also wondering if there could be a problem with the motherboard. Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks for your question. About the configuration: it looks solid with a strong CPU, decent RAM, and a fast SSD. Whether OCCT is sufficient depends on your specific needs—if you're just testing stability, it might work fine. However, running a memory test like MemTest86 can help ensure there are no issues.
I completed a memtest with everything left in its default state. It ran four passes, taking about four hours, and reported zero errors at the end. For OCCT, it’s been active for nearly two hours without any detected issues so far. PS: After the memtest, when I booted into Windows, I encountered the same issue—no programs launching and the system freezing instantly upon desktop appearance. I didn’t mention in my original post that this problem frequently happens during a Windows reboot, though it’s less common on cold starts.
I attempted to boot Linux from a USB drive, but it doesn’t start properly—it keeps looping and shows error messages. I tried updating the BIOS, but that didn’t help. Any suggestions on what might be the issue? Could the problem be related to the USB drive itself?
Yes, there were issues detecting the problem was due to the system not recognizing it as a RAM failure. Testing in another environment could help clarify the cause.
Are you sure? A test like Memtest showing zero errors doesn't always guarantee it's working properly. Everyone uses different devices—some are newer, others are older. That might explain the issue.
