Maximus II Formula isn't able to exceed the recommended speed limits.
Hello, I recently constructed my second overclocking rig and frequently encounter the "Overclock Failure" warning from the Asus motherboard. Although I have experience with Gigabyte boards, I’m new to ASUS and this has been confusing for me.
CPU: Intel Xeon 3.33GHz X5470 LGA 771 to 775 mod (I’ve updated the BIOS microcode)
RAM: 8GB Patriot 4x2GB 800MHz DDR2
MOBO: Asus Maximus 2 Formula with the latest BIOS update and microcode modification
CPU Cooler: BE QUIET Dark Rock 3
PSU: Cougar CMX 850W V3
CPU Voltage: 1.3-1.4V – nothing seems to work
CPU PLL: 1.55-1.60V
DRAM Voltage: 1.9-2.10V (NB: 1.4V)
FSB: 1.35-1.4V
SB stock or +0.5-1.0 increase
Despite trying voltages within this range, my PC still fails to pass the BIOS tests. I also faced issues with a Core 2 Quad Q6600, which only reached 3.2GHz regardless of voltage settings, and I experimented with CPU GTL, NB-CPU-DRAM skew timings, etc., but nothing worked. Anyone have any advice?
it's an 80 plus bronze certified unit and it might hit nearly 80 plus silver standards. initially i used a corsair 80 plus 550w psu but later switched to an 850w from the main rig and the problem persisted.
Adjusted the issue by modifying the ram timings (6-6-6-18-24) since 2.3v wasn't sufficient (this was a bit odd) to maintain the FSB-dram ratio at 1:1 on 800MHz
