I’m reaching out for assistance. I recently upgraded to a Ryzen 7 5800X with Crosshair VIII Dark Hero from an i7 7700K and Strix Z270F. I’m struggling to boot into Windows even at memory speeds above 2133MHz—at 2400MHz the login screen loads but my PC crashes right after entering the password and jumps to the recovery screen. The RAM I’m using is G Skill Trident Z RGB 3200MHz with a CAS 16, 4x 8GB configuration. It worked fine on my older Intel system, so the cards themselves seem okay. I’ve adjusted DOCP settings, changed speeds manually, and made other tweaks, but nothing helps. At 3200MHz it won’t start. If I force it, I see error code 36 on the motherboard display and have to reset CMOS. My system runs smoothly at 2133MHz, but setting the DRAM voltage to 1.35V while keeping the clock at 2133MHz still doesn’t unlock Windows. I’ve tested all my modules one at a time, including a fully identical Corsair Vengeance, and only five of them handled 3200MHz without issues, with stable booting. My main dilemma is whether to replace the faulty Trident module or risk further damage. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I saved and installed it yesterday. The problems remained unchanged before and after the update.

Have you experimented with using only one stick of RAM? A quick search suggests possible startup errors, registry or hardware issues. Some recommend trying a single RAM stick or a Linux live USB to troubleshoot. I also learned that Zeno 3 CPUs have a high failure rate—possibly due to defective factory parts. The X570 and B550 motherboards have reported significant failures as well. But I think the problem is more likely related to the CPU itself rather than the motherboard.

I've tested 2 instead of 4 and got the same outcome. I'll try only 1 once I'm back. Thanks for your assistance. I'm hoping the CPU and board are working properly, but I've heard Ryzen can be sensitive to specific RAM types.

It seems you're facing some issues with your RAM setup. Make sure it's listed in Asus' QVL for your motherboard. With Asus, they tend to be strict about RAM modules—XMP settings usually work fine. Double-check if the RAM you plan to buy is available in that list for your specific board.

I have the precise RAM specification but with adjusted clock speeds. Alongside comparable units from the same manufacturer that share identical timing settings, they appear in the QVL.

You discovered a faulty module. Submit it for warranty service. Test the system on two drives until it responds again.
