Maximum path length in XP Pro SP3 is 64 meters.
Hello everyone! I’m trying to understand the maximum path length in Windows XP Pro SP3. From what I’ve read, it seems the limit is around 260 characters: one letter drive + semicolon + console + path + filename + three-letter extension + null character. That adds up to 260. For example, a path like C:\256-characters-path-including-file-name-and-extension would count as 259 characters (256 plus the three in C:\), leaving one extra for the null). So, the recommended maximum is about 256 characters for both the path and filename. Is that accurate for XP Pro SP3?
