Maximum operating temperature for FX-8350 is 125°C.
Do you know the real maximum temperature for the FX 8350 package? You've seen mentions of 61C, 62C, 75C, etc. Using CPU Burner at 4.7GHz and 1.488V got it to 79°C quickly. Does that suggest 80°C is the tJMax? You're monitoring with HWMonitor and HWiNFO for the package temp.
Hello, thanks for your response! I noticed the 61C value before and others have talked about it. I believe reaching 79C without thermal shutdown suggests the maximum temperature is higher than that? The 61C seems quite low for tJmax to me. I regularly perform complex physics calculations involving black holes and work with 2160p60 video editing in Davinci Resolve. I also watch 2160p60 videos on YouTube, use Handbrake for 4320p content, and gaming occasionally—though it tends to strain the GPU more than the CPU!
I previously ran it above 5.2GHz on a water loop. That stopped working and I'm back on air (NH-D15). At around 4.8GHz the voltage demands became extreme. 4.7GHz works for me, though I worry about the temperatures when it shuts down because I booted into BIOS and it reached 82°C. I'm currently running at 1.440 and it feels stable but needs full testing. I'm puzzled as to why it doesn't throttle even at 79°C if the maximum it can handle is 61°C—this seems odd! Their own overdrive with offset reaches 70°C, yet my system doesn't throttle either. Haha!
It's completely fine, and I believe once someone replies, the question will move down. I’ll only use this system for up to two months at most, though it might be closer to one now. It’s just too slow for what I’m working on, honestly xD! I haven’t used BCK or NB because I’m really nervous, and mine has passed heavy stress tests at 4.7GHz 1.440V. Thanks a lot for talking to me about this—I’m glad to see another FX user! Wishing AMD the best moving forward, as it now gives competition a reason to stop the 9980XE and 10980XE from being as bad as they used to be!
