The Q6600 should operate smoothly at 3.0 GHz on the standard cooler with minimal or no vcore adjustment. A mid-range model can hit 3.3 to 3.4 GHz, while some high-end units reach 3.6 GHz when paired with adequate cooling and a solid case for stability. I've noticed claims of 3.8 to 4.0 GHz, but these haven't been verified with screen captures using Prime95 and CPU-Z.

I might have a screenshot of just that jsc, but if I don’t, I won’t be able to recreate it, so I’ll set up a new system.

Updated with an upgraded CPU fan, my OC'd Q6600 now runs at 3.6Ghz / fsb 1600Mhz on Air. Maximum CPU core temperature is around 57°C, but after 2-3 hours of black ops playtime it reaches up to 60°C.

Not too bad at all, that's a solid overclock. If I were you, I wouldn't push it even higher because the chances of getting the best payoff are outweighed by the risks involved.

The testing process involved checking stability and determining the duration.

I ignored the choice between Orthos and Prime—it was either one or the other, with the other focusing on dual-core performance. I ran just over 22 hours, temperatures reached a peak around 68°C during testing, which is typical, and I didn’t experience that issue in RL apps or games.

Yeah, my system starts at 3.8 GHz but it's not consistent. My setup runs stable for 24 hours with Prime95 at 1.425 volts, and core temperatures stay between 61 and 66 degrees Celsius. If you manage to run at 3.6 GHz using just 1.37 volts on the CPU, you've definitely won the CPU challenge.

I secured a good deal on the CPU by purchasing it from Craigslist for fifty dollars. Later, I sold the motherboard, CPU, and RAM package for three hundred dollars.

Hmm, I only reached up to 3.42GHz on 1.36v. After that, things stopped working properly. I experienced freezing during startup or a blue screen that restarts automatically. It might just be the Nvidia 780i motherboard. From what I've seen, 3.2ghz to 3.4ghz doesn't really help much. In fact, I noticed my frame rates dropped by about 2 to 5 in some games. Plus, I'm running an overclocked GTX 285, so I don't know what's happening there.
