up to the limits! System and budget depend, but the world record stands at 5.1Ghz.

It all comes down to the cooling setup for your CPU and the motherboard you're using. I installed it at 3.6 without any problems, but some people haven't been as fortunate...

Besides what was discussed earlier, it's important to note that not every processor is identical, and overclocking should not be done at the same settings.

I'm checking if adding a liquid cooling system would improve performance and reduce core temperatures for your Dell XPS630 OC Q6600 setup.

Your Vcore setting varies at 3.4 and 3.6 clocks. The difference between them is what you're asking about.

A. everyday use refers to a core that operates at 3.4Ghz/fsb 1520Mhz with a core voltage of 1.40V.
B. game time corresponds to a core that runs at 3.6Ghz/fsb 1600Mhz and uses a core voltage of 1.45V (it's hard to distinguish between the two settings while playing).

that's about as far as you'll get the Vcore before you start to experience instability. I had mine @ 3.6 with a 1.37 Vcore and then the jump to 3.8 made me use a 1.41 Vcore. I tried 4.0 but had to go just over 1.46 Vcore and saw slight signs of instability and had to back it down. What i did notice (which is what you noticed) is that there's not much advantage past 3.4, in fact, 3.2 was almost the same as 3.6 on my setup...

what is the highest cpu core temperature at 3.6 ghz during heavy use or gaming? my temp is around 65-67 degrees celsius (real temp 3.60). if it's too high, should i consider upgrading to liquid cooling? thanks for your advice!

Actually, 65 - 67 is right at the edge of being too high, but you should be fine. I was around 61c under full load, sometimes 63c and kept it that way for 24 hours a day over a couple of years at 3.8 to 3.6
