Massive frame drops for RTX 2060 model
Hello everyone, welcome back from a chilly Lithuania. I just bought a used RTX 2060 and started testing it. I transferred my 1070 from my daughter’s rig to the 2060 – basically, performance is terrible with stuttering and frame drops to single digits in BF1. The 1070 would easily hit 100+ fps on medium/high settings. I ran a short test for about ten minutes and got around 120 fps while staying at 82°C, which seems reasonable under full load. This model has two fans and is a compact ASUS TUF series unit (I usually don’t get lucky with Asus). When I tested BF1, it crashed after daylight hours and both units behaved the same. Frame drops and stutters are present. Also, utilization stays below 50%. After cleaning the drivers with DDU and doing a fresh install, I tried different graphics drivers like dx11 and 12, changed cables, checked HDMI and DP – nothing changed. Specs: 500W PSU, 8GB 2400MHz RAM. It seems the 1070 is handling it just fine. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
Tested my 1070 and it's running smoothly. Anyone has any ideas about why the 2060 isn't being used as much in games?
They probably weren't trying to be offensive but were making solid observations. Cards such as the RTX 2060 were commonly used by miners. If the BIOS was changed or the card wasn't properly cooled, it might have hidden damage. If everything checks out, ensure you fully uninstall the previous driver and reinstall the newest NVIDIA version from their site. That’s exactly what they intended. Simply using any driver or skipping the right one will cause issues.
