Searching for a suitable alternative to your Synology RT2600AC. Business-class routers might offer better value. Synology’s features like device bandwidth monitoring, bandwidth usage charts, and quick device identification seemed appealing without the steep cost. Your Netgear lacked these capabilities and required reboots for updates. You’d need Wi-Fi 6, Open VPN support, and the ability to manage over 30 devices. Cost varies based on the features you prioritize.

You're experiencing issues with the Synology RT2600-AC. Regarding "30+" devices, do they include both wired and wireless models? What types of devices are you connecting? Is this intended for a residential or commercial environment? I'm also curious about the coverage area in square footage and the number of floors involved. Ubiquiti products appear to meet your needs, though setting up OpenVPN may require a powerful device like a Raspberry Pi or another router serving as a VPN gateway. pfSense is an alternative, but I lack experience with it to offer tailored advice.

Oooh! It would have been nice to keep the conversation in the same thread. I was hoping for some feedback before it was too late. Ubiquiti doesn’t currently offer WiFi-6 access points in their pro-sumer/UniFi range, though their consumer line AmpliFi includes the Alien, which supports WiFi-6. But the Alien provides less control and monitoring compared to their UniFi products. If you’re considering the Ubiquiti approach, here’s a potential setup. Warning! This won’t be cheap. ISP modem | | UDM Pro (replaces your router, runs UniFi Controller, includes 8-port Gb switch) ---------- AmpliFi Alien (for WiFi-6 in AP mode) | | UniFi PoE Switch(es) (8/16/24 ports with UniFi Controller integration/monitoring) for your PoE cameras and other wired devices | | | | 1-2x UniFi AP AC Lite/LR/Pro/nanoHD (over PoE) for all your WiFi devices Of course, you can skip the AmpliFi and just upgrade the UniFi APs later when WiFi-6 models arrive. I’d also recommend checking the Ubiquiti forum for tips—experts there can help you navigate your UniFi configuration better.
