I was concerned about installing Windows 10 within a week since I planned to replace my motherboard soon. We all understand that Windows 10 ties closely to your hardware. If the upgrade happens, changing the board would invalidate the activation. Would I then need to purchase Windows 10 just because I upgraded my motherboard? We have a solution. Upgrading to Windows 10 means either swapping your board or another essential component—creating a fresh system. Reinstall sp1 (if applicable for Windows 7) and proceed with the GWX upgrade for your new board. You can repeat this process as many times as needed until the free trial period ends. This is essentially a final option if Windows 10 won’t re-activate on your new hardware or if contact support fails. It’s a last resort, but it seems to work in practice. Great news for anyone upgrading after Windows 10.

You don’t need to contact Microsoft over the phone for activation since you’re using Insider licensing. Also, if you’re planning a new motherboard, you’ll want to check its requirements beforehand.

It functions similarly when you follow the steps carefully. Make sure to record your win key before swapping the board; this ensures a smooth process. A fresh installation helps, and entering the key should succeed. If issues arise, contact support and be prepared for a resolution. This approach is a final option to regain 10 free games within one year.

We've never received windows as a free upgrade from previous versions, and windows 10 ties your hardware ID to the vendor, meaning you can reinstall on another system. Changing the motherboard would invalidate that verification. There was confusion about how to reclaim a free license after a major upgrade.

You've never been permitted to set up Windows on two different hardware setups without damaging the original components. Now Microsoft is strictly enforcing this rule. Until recently, offering a free upgrade hasn't been done before. This shift marks a move toward a subscription model—'Windows as a Service' is becoming reality. It's already underway in the corporate sector.

Windows will operate as a service rather than a product. Your version of Windows will function similarly to other services such as Xbox Music, Office 365, and OneDrive. Visit windows.com to review their updates for Windows 10. Note: I’ll handle about 90% of the tasks. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-faq
