Major problems reported with Intel Pro/1000 PT niche devices
I gathered two OEM Intel Pro/1000 PT cards, one with a Quad port and the other with a Dual port. I began by installing the Quad port on my server, but it showed no lights. After several attempts to troubleshoot, I replaced the card with an old NAS build and it functioned properly. Then I swapped it into my server, which worked fine. For the Dual port version, I installed it in a tower and connected it to the server – it operated correctly. When moving the Quad port to another system, all indicators lit up.
Before sharing further details, here’s what I noticed:

- The issue started with the Quad port not lighting up
- Dual port worked in the same slot despite different slots
- Power connectors were present but no LEDs on the Dual port
- No space for power or SATA/Molex connections
- Used Cat 6 and 6E cables
- Tried two X4 slots plus an X16, still no success
- Other systems with Quad ports showed lights and functionality
I checked the BIOS but didn’t find any relevant settings. I attempted forcing the PCIe lane to X4 mode, but it didn’t help. The card’s LEDs activated when installed, but not when placed elsewhere.
