System details: Windows OS 11 attempted Linux Mint setup on an SSD drive with UEFI BIOS. BIOS access available. What occurred: I was attempting a dual-boot configuration between Windows and Linux Mint. I reduced the C: partition to create space for Linux and began the installation. During the Linux Mint installation, the system became unresponsive and froze entirely. I had to restart the machine. Afterward, the situation worsened: Windows won't boot, Linux cannot be accessed (installation incomplete), and USB booting is completely unavailable—screen freezes or goes black even with a fresh blank SSD. I’ve adjusted boot order in BIOS to prioritize USB, turned off Secure Boot, enabled legacy/CSM support, tested multiple USB ports and cables, reformatted RAM one by one, reset BIOS to defaults, cleared CMOS by removing the battery for 30 seconds, used various boot media formats, and verified all SATA/power connections. Since I can still enter BIOS, it suggests a hardware failure isn’t total, but something is severely affecting my boot process. Possible causes include a motherboard issue with the USB controller or BIOS corruption. The inability to boot from any USB drive is especially confusing. Any advice would be invaluable—I’m stuck and can’t even format the system.
Thank you for your response. I tried it but no help. I have only one slot available for nvm ssd so I took out and try with the blank ssd but no help
Consider these steps: 1) Eliminate any components that can be accessed via hard drives, etc. 2) Attempt boot from USB to verify BIOS presence and direct boot capability. 3) Test booting without any bootable media to confirm the "no bootable media" message. The black screen may indicate display issues—check if it halts display output or remains powered while flashing a cursor.
Thank you for your reply. Your laptop was sent to the maker, but they may not be able to resolve the problem. After returning it, I’ll attempt your advice. When choosing the USB for setup, nothing occurs—just the brand logo shows up.
