It isn't simplified to the bare minimum. You haven't touched Linux, let alone recent versions. 99% of software isn't designed for you. At the very least, it's probably only a small percentage. Proton supports most Steam titles on Linux, while Wine can run many Windows apps there.
I question whether you'd choose an operating system with hidden tracking over something straightforward.
Lol, sure, every webserver is a W E B server. Not your typical PC I work on—just an IT technician for one of the biggest companies in Italy (IMA). I’ve never even heard of Linux, let alone used it seriously. No ads, no OS level stuff, just basic software. Maybe it has some games, but that’s after all these years without them.
I've spent a lot of time online and only got infected once when I was ten, clicking everything that appeared. Since then, I haven't been affected again. I've had antivirus protection for about six years now. The main reason I checked was because I wasn't fully understanding what Windows 7 End-of-Life means. I'm just unsure how exposed I really am unless I switch to something else—like Windows 10. It's really frustrating because I have three terabytes of files, and backups won't help.
Got it! Always keep the system restore handy, support dual booting with Linux, and don’t worry about risky tasks—everything’s safe.
omg, dude, there is no single reason on this planet that would ever make me switch to linux lol, i'd rather be off the internet for my entire life. as i've said, if i have to switch, it will be for windows 10. only reason i won't is the one stated above
in dual booting mode it might work well, I could add another 2TB SSD and install ten on it
I'm not responsible for starting this discussion, but I need to use Office, which an article from a couple of months ago suggested could be handled with Wine. However, support will end soon for Office 2010 as well. Office 2016 worked with another program, though that one isn't free. Running Word documents in a virtual machine for every file would be impractical. I also have to manage multiple applications for my studies. Mac users are advised to use a VM, which is still a hassle. Learning the operating system again feels tedious too. Linux doesn’t seem feasible for me at the moment. Plus, I’m wondering what others think about using Windows 7 moving forward.
