Maintain or reinstall preferences after BIOS upgrade
Maintain or reinstall preferences after BIOS upgrade
Hello everyone, this seems like a pretty basic question. Back in 2009 we didn’t save profiles in BIOS settings, so I’ve spent a lot of time tweaking fan curves for quieter operation. I’m worried the updates might wipe everything out. Should I save my preferences to a profile, or are they lost during the update? Is there another way to recover them after the BIOS change? I own an ASUS ROG Strix B450 Gaming-E board with Wi-Fi only, and I can’t use a cable because of my modem location. I’ll have to run the BIOS update from an old USB drive. Any advice would be really helpful.
It's difficult to maintain through a BIOS update for several reasons. The key issue is that after updating, the settings area in the NVRAM could shift, and using an outdated profile might prevent the system from starting properly until the CMOS is reset.
I was also bothered by this for a long time but in the end there is actually a way to reload settings after a BIOS update. You just have to save the Asus User Profile to an external USB drive and reload bios settings from the drive after the update. This article goes into detail how to do it.
