Hey everyone, for my corona break project I decided to experiment with server setup using an old workstation. I was mainly working on Minecraft to pass the time. The machine only supports a few RAM sticks and all the fans are running at full speed constantly. The CPU gets extremely hot even when idle, making the cooling unit uncomfortable to handle while the fans spin between 4000 and 5000 RPM. The situation got worse with the case I used—it kept failing to recognize certain RAM slots, and sometimes it wouldn’t boot at all. I built everything from a scrapyard GPU, a random PSU, and a case that didn’t match the BIOS version. Despite trying different BIOS updates and fan models, the fans never stopped spinning. It’s frustrating because I know the MAC address is there, but the LAN card isn’t working, so I’m using a PCI card instead. Overall, this setup has become quite annoying.

Well, I’d probably look for a decent X79 board from Asus or Gigabyte and skip the Fujitsu one. Just remember, spending that money wouldn’t be easy, but it might be the smart choice.

With the funds available, I could upgrade to an Asrock Pro4s, a 6700k, and a Thermalright Macho X2 from a friend, plus use the RAM I already have. It seems my motherboard might be faulty, doesn't it?
