Mafia 2 requires an older NVidia version that was installed automatically via Steam. Do you need to download a newer PhysX version from the NVidia website? Since Mafia 2 won’t launch without it, and you’re using Windows 10 64, make sure the updated PhysX is compatible.

I aim to use the most recent PhysX release available. Keep in mind it operates on the CPU rather than the GPU.

It's not a good idea to use it. It puts extra pressure on the CPU, and the results aren't very satisfying.

It seems you're asking about installing PhysX on an AMD card, since some believe it's unnecessary for AMD chips and only needed for NVIDIA.

However, Mafia 2 cannot launch unless PhysX is included.

AMD players can access PhysX, though it won’t be the full version—Advanced PhysX adds extra particles and effects and needs a specific GPU. Mafia 2 might look similar to regular settings with no major changes. Buying a budget NVIDIA card isn’t feasible since those drivers turn off Advanced PhysX when an AMD chip is detected.

PhysX is supported on NVIDIA hardware through a specialized processor built into their cards, while AMD systems lack this feature. This means PhysX relies on the CPU for processing.

I believe NVIDIA employs the GPU for executing PhysX.

I believed they used a unique component in their GPUs for running PhysX only when required. This seems odd upon reflection.
