HFS+ was an upgrade to hfs, mainly designed for hard drives but quite general in nature. This contrasts sharply with the perspective I have, which comes from someone who understands technology well—though they’re human and can be mistaken. One viewpoint is correct while the other isn’t, unless both are mistaken or my interpretation is off. The person in question has been a long-time Mac user and may simply dislike APFS, leading to negative comments about it. I’ll check with them again when I see them.
