Machine powers off and cooling system works normally
I lowered the graphics quality to a minimal level, wouldn’t that produce the same outcome as lowering the frame rate? Could it lead to a crash? Might the GPU fail or the power supply issue be the cause, as noted by someone else?
Performance drops because it restricts power usage, but addressing the problem is free and effective. It encourages upgrading your power supply since 1000W options are now affordable. Adjusting settings or reducing frame rate offers similar results, while lowering TDP provides a clearer way to isolate issues.
Certainly! Here’s a revised version of your statement:
So achieving 75% power means if it fails, we’re at 50%, and if that doesn’t resolve the issue, I’ll definitely need to replace the PSU.
Avoid setting an excessively high framerate. Check the New World issues, like the Diablo 4 failures observed in some beta tests. The system seems to power down completely, with the screen going dark and the GPU fan reaching maximum speed. A defective GPU likely needs replacement. If the power supply unit was faulty and triggered a protection mechanism, the PC would shut off entirely without any fans running. You'd also need to manually turn the power switch back on to restore operation.
@Xemosh If the problem is limited to Diablo 4, I’d just turn off DLSS or cap the frame rate to ease the GPU load. But if it occurs in other games too, I’d check for a more suitable power supply unit. D4 supports up to 4K at maximum settings, with unlocked frame rates and no DLSS at 240 fps on my machine—making it fairly well optimized compared to Diablo 3. I reached level 33 last night and completed two times level 25 and one time level 20 during open betas.
I tested with the minimum settings, and it seems to turn off DLSS. I also played in both betas without any problems. In the first beta, all classes reached level 25, and a necro hit level 20 in the server slam. As noted earlier, this happened in Minecraft too. A small aside: it crashed when shaders were on, but after reinstalling Minecraft, it stopped. I also played other games without issues. Minecraft with shaders and Diablo 4 causes it to crash. This should limit the GPU load, shouldn't it?
Absolutely, I'd push it to its limits if 75% TDP doesn't resolve the issue. If that stops the system from crashing, I'd suggest opting for a 1000W unit to provide ample safety margin. Prices have dropped significantly over the past few years compared to when I first purchased a 1KW PSU.
