I attempted to use the "Reinstall OS X" feature in the recovery process, but it reported that the current version couldn't be upgraded. To work around this, I considered installing a fresh OS X from a USB drive, accessing the hard drive via file system on another Windows machine, and then transferring files back using a network connection. I also thought about formatting the Mac's drive and reinstalling OS X there, moving data from your Windows PC. Your question is: Does installing OS X on the flash drive while the main drive is connected affect the original hard drive? Thank you.
