Hi everyone. I purchased a used model with 8GB RAM, an i5 processor, and a 1TB hard drive. The system came pre-installed with Windows 7, which ran smoothly. To try Mac OS, I reformatted the drive and used Internet Recovery to install Snow Leopard. For a higher version, I created a bootable pendrive but faced installation issues. I installed El Capitan there, but it caused performance problems. What should I do next?
Consider replacing the slow 5400rpm hard drive with a solid-state drive for better performance.
It might have happened that the pressure of formatting and setting up caused the HDD to fail. You can confirm this by reinstalling Windows 7 and testing its functionality. If successful, use crystaldiskinfo to assess your drive's condition. This issue is fairly typical for those models because Apple often avoids including decent storage in their high-end systems priced over $1100. Even with a brand-new drive, I still suggest switching to an SSD.
Hello, I don't know how to set up Windows on a Mac since I'm unfamiliar with the process. However, the person who sold me the device mentioned they encountered a similar issue and had Windows installed there. Also, when I tried to install macOS Catalina via internet recovery, I got a download error even though my internet connection is working properly. I've attached the error image for reference.
It seems like you're considering a failing hard drive. SATA SSDs are affordable and worth a look.
I just discovered the issue. I put Mac OS on an external hard drive, then installed the driverDx app. It reported my internal hard drive was failing. Thanks for your assistance!
