Mac OS version 12.4 frequently changes to "Variable Refresh Rate," but this setting isn't functioning properly.
Hi everyone, first of all, here's my (work) setup: MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020) MacOS 12.4 (21F79) connected via Thunderbolt 3 to a Belkin Thunderbolt™ 3 Dock Pro connected via DP to a Samsung Odysee G9 Now to my problem: Every time I connect the Mac to the Dock, the Monitor goes black. I need to navigate to the Display Settings and manually set the refresh rate from "60-120 Hz (variable)" to "120 Hz". I tried getting the variable refresh rate to work since the G9 supports g-sync, which hasn't worked out. I am fine running it with a fixed 120 Hz. However, I am not fine changing the refresh rate manually each and every time. I also can't close the lid of the mac, as it will switch back to variable in the settings - which led to a black screen. Is there anyone out there running the same / a similar setup and has also faced this weird behavior? Is there any way to fix this? I already tried "Switch Res X" which also didn't solve the problem.
Sorry for the delayed response! In fact, I’m working at 120Hz with a 5120x1440 resolution, which seems to be fine. That probably isn’t the problem. I’d consider skipping the Variable Refresh Rate on my Mac—it tends to turn on automatically, which is annoying. Side note: Have any ideas on adjusting your configuration? Right now I’m using: PC - DP1.4 - Monitor PC - USB3.0 KVM Switch - Peripherals & MAC - TB3 - Belkin Dock - USB3.0 KVM Switch - Peripherals MAC - TB3 - Belkin Dock - DP1.4 - Monitor. This setup lets me connect everything easily by plugging in the Mac, using a button on the KVM, and switching devices without losing power. I’m thinking about removing the Belkin Dock and connecting the KVM directly to the monitor, but that would mean losing Mac charging.
The fix is functioning properly when the KVM switch enables EDID simulation and feeds EDID to every linked device continuously using full DP-bus timing.
