Mac os help
I'm dealing with a mid-2010 MacBook Pro that I'm trying to use for some personal projects. Instead of seeing anything, I'm only getting a white screen. I ended up connecting the drive to a Windows PC and found old files and other unnecessary stuff. Can someone help me reinstall macOS again? I don't have access to the original Mac or another MacBook. If I manage to fix this, I'll update the post to let people know it's not worth your time.
You might press command + r to reach internet recovery tools (if present); otherwise, you may require a second Mac to create an installer or USB drive.
This setup is outdated and unsuitable for internet recovery. You should install OS X using a USB installer, create one from another Mac, or use a DVD drive.
It seems this device is among the earliest to offer that capability. However, it needs an EFI Firmware update to be functional. It's possible the update has already been installed. For more details, see the Apple support page on EFI updates for MacBook Pro 15 and 17 Inch. For OS X Internet Recovery upgrades, check the Apple documentation here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202313
Here's some additional documentation for ya. https://support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/ma...lp1599/mac
Attempted to keep the option active while using a Windows USB, but I have a CentOS key ready. The white screen still plays the startup sound; I haven’t connected it to a display yet, but I’ll try. Edited October 5, 2020 by piercetorres Including more details.
You can install Windows without a license key. When prompted, choose the option indicating no product key. If needed, reset the SMC to see a warning like the Prohibitory Sign or a question mark, as macOS isn't installed. For your device, you might need to remove the battery and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds. Resource: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201295
