I’m preparing a Media Server on a modest Windows 7 machine. A 4TB HDD is being used for media storage while the operating system and applications reside on a smaller SSD. I plan to connect the HDD to my Mac via a drive dock to move files onto it, then install it into the PC. Paragon NTFS allows writing to the drive. The issue: after transferring, VLC refuses to play the files, showing the error “VLC is unable to open the MRL file.” Method 4 resolves this by fixing permission issues. Moving via Ethernet doesn’t help. I’m considering using USB3 for faster, more reliable transfers instead of Ethernet. I’ve faced similar challenges with NTFS before FAT, and I’m an advanced Mac user but basic on Windows. *Yes*, the TERRORbytes problem is concerning—there’s no straightforward way to batch-move all files without running into permission hurdles.

Method 4 works for folders, affecting every file inside. Just proceed with it. If you want assistance, please specify so I can review and support you.

The issue now centers on permissions rather than technical steps. When copying media files to the drive from the Mac, everything functions smoothly without additional adjustments. However, copying them individually to the top level causes permission conflicts. This shift makes it less about the process and more about understanding why certain actions trigger problems.
