Your setup offers strong performance with the i9-10900k and RTX 3080 ti. The second M.2 slot boosts PCIe speeds to 8x, which can noticeably improve gaming. Moving the M.2_2 to M.2_3 won’t affect OS functionality or installation paths, but it may slightly alter where queries and boot processes run.

Storage type shouldn't impact performance, especially in terms of frames per second. Any issues would result in significantly reduced speed. It mainly affects loading times and texture downloads. With a 10th generation CPU, the top M.2_1 slot has no effect. M2._2 shares bandwidth with PCI-E X16 slots, which come from the CPU. M.2_3 and M.2_4 use the Z590 chipset. I recommend choosing either M.2_3 or M.2_4.

The change in the M.2 slot shouldn't affect file locations like C: drive or the boot manager.

It shouldn't happen. The drive is located in C:\, and D:\, Z:\ is part of the operating system. Swapping the SSD to another slot shouldn't cause issues.

I was wondering about the frame rate because the PCIe speeds are changing from 16x to 8x in the M.2 slot that's occupied.
