I'm looking to upgrade my main storage to NVMe M.2. As a video editor working mainly on After Effects, I'm not very familiar with parts. I was considering the Samsung 970 Evo Plus M.2 1TB NVME MZ-V7S1T0BW because it seems well-recommended. Before purchasing, I want to confirm if it fits my M.2 motherboard (MSI B450M Mortar). Also, I'd appreciate some suggestions for other affordable alternatives that perform well. Thanks!

Your motherboard indeed features two M.2 ports, though they only support PCIe Gen 2. The 970 Evo Plus runs on Gen 3, making it compatible but limiting its performance potential. You're unlikely to encounter a Gen 2 drive in the new market today. This opens opportunities to explore 1 TB Gen 3 options from trusted manufacturers.
