M.2 and heatsinks
M.2 and heatsinks
I'm assembling my system and encountered a minor problem. I purchased two Samsung 990 Pro SSDs equipped with heatsinks during a good sale (they were cheaper than the non-heatsink models). My motherboard is an Asus ROG Strix X670e-f, which has its own heatsinks that won't work with the Samsung ones. Is this an issue? Should I return these and buy two non-heatsink units instead? Or does it really matter?
Additionally, the MB heatsink for slot 2 also covers slots 3 and 4. Using the Samsung model would leave those slots uncovered and empty. Does this pose a concern?
Thanks again.
Only a nuisance, perhaps.
Skip the MoBo heatsinks and opt for those included with M.2 SSDs.
MoBo M.2 covers are more suited for show than real cooling.
They're too thin, lacking grooves or fins to function as an effective heat sink.
Typically, they just contain heat instead of dissipating it properly.
