M1730 dell xps laptop cpu and gpu overclocking
I have a old dell xps m1730 laptop I’m upgrading and tinkering around with just for fun and kicks I’m upgrading the gpu from a 8700m 256mb single gpu to a 8800m gtx sli 1gb dual card (yes I know vram doesn’t stack nor do I give a care) and I believe it has a t8300 c2d @ 2.4ghz but is this laptop (and cooling system) able to handle gpu overclocking and cpu overclocking??? And does the cpu have turbo boost???? I’m probably gonna have it professionally overclocked or at least have someone who knows what they are doing (ie not me) overclock it by the way
I own an old Dell XPS M1730 laptop and I’m doing an upgrade just for fun. I’m swapping the GPU from a 8700M 256MB single chip to a 8800M GTX SLI 1GB dual card (yes, I know VRAM doesn’t add up). I think it might have a T8300 C2D at 2.4GHz, but I’m wondering if this laptop—and its cooling system—can handle both GPU and CPU overclocking? Also, does the CPU support turbo boost? Probably need to get it professionally overclocked or have someone experienced do it (not me).
The cooler layout is different between the 8700M version and the 8800M SLI version, so it looks like you can’t fit the 8800M in. I’d be surprised if it could work even in gaming laptops, since the BIOS usually has restrictions. Another point to think about is using a power bank. These laptops often run at full capacity, so pushing them might not be wise. From a cooling perspective, the core and 8700M should handle a light load. Just keep in mind you definitely can’t install the 8800M SLI version here.
You seem to be asking if this will work with my laptop!! Check out this item here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Dell-XPS-M1...1195844443 This part is specifically for Dell XPS M1730!!!

I’d be surprised if it could work either—even in gaming laptops the BIOS is quite restrictive. Another point: these laptops usually run at full power, so pushing them might not be ideal. Regarding cooling, the core + 8700m should handle it with a light load.

Since this model comes with a cooler, it should be okay. Make sure you use the correct power brick—it includes a high-wattage unit and a lower wattage one.
