Lower than normal FPS in games
Lower than normal FPS in games
I put in a lot of effort this summer and used the funds to upgrade my system with these parts:
Intel i7-8700K
EVGA RTX 2080 TI
Team T-Force Night Hawk 32GB (4x8GB) 3200mhz DDR4
Seasonic FOCUS 750 W 80+ Gold
VIOTEK GN32DR 32" 144hz (2560x1440)
Recently, I've observed that my graphics card is performing lower frame rates than expected. For instance, benchmarks from sites like GPUcheck.com indicate that a setup with an 8700k and 2080 Ti should typically hit around 110 fps in Farcry 5 at 1440p, and about 70 fps at 4K (2160p). In comparison, my average is roughly 75 fps during most tests at 1440p, peaking between 87 and 89, and dropping to 65-67 at the lowest. The trend is similar in GTA V, where GPUcheck's rig averages about 121 fps at 1440p and around 64 fps at 4K. On the other hand, I've managed to reach over 120 fps a few times during testing, with a high of around 151, though most sessions stayed between 75 and 90 fps. When playing live in games like Far Cry, my frame rate can drop to as low as 38-40, depending on the situation. These results occurred even when running at maximum settings without V-sync.
I’m using the Nvidia game-ready driver 436.30. Below are some screenshots illustrating the GPU clock speeds, temperatures, and usage. Don’t worry about the FPS drops in Far Cry—I accidentally pressed alt+tabbed out of the game at one point.
Just a quick note, the frames I’m seeing aren’t poor, and all my games still run smoothly. Still, I feel motivated to push this machine further since I’ve invested significant time and money into it.
